On Aug. 31,2012, Paschal High School suffered a terrible loss. Sophomore Rick Sek tragically drowned during an end-of-band-camp party at the LMRA pool. Rick, who played French horn, was a quiet, loving classmate at Paschal. We continue to ask for thoughts and prayers for the Sek family, our directors, and our grieving students.
The band wanted to do something to help Rick's family and was successful in raising enough money to pay for his funeral. We want to thank Paschal families, our Dallas-Fort Worth community, and our many sister bands for their generous outpouring of love and support.
The Paschal Band created and maintains the Tammy Smith Fund in part of emergencies such as this. You can directlly assist our neediest students by making a donation.

More than 200 parents, students and teachers held a candlelight vigil for Rick in the band's memorial plaza.

TAMMY SMITH
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, the band lost Tammy Michele Smith who died of a heart attack at age 43. Tammy-- in addition to being wife to Randy and mother to Brandon (Class of 2013, percussion)--was unofficial mom of the band, working long hours to be sure the band was dressed and fed...and taking never-ending photos of her beloved band kids.
Tammy had a special ability to recognize students in crises and to give them exactly what they needed, whether it be hugs, food, or black socks. Tammy taught us to treat each other as family and to help each other through the hard times of life. Her parents Thomas and Dorothy Wiant have tried to fill Tammy's shoes by donating endless hours to the band.
The band continues her example through the "Tammy Fund," a fund created and maintained by the Boosters to help hard-working band students with partial scholarships for fees and trips, and most recently it was used to raise funds for the funeral for student Rick Sek.
The fund relies on your donations. If you would like to make a huge difference in a child's life, if you have a student in band, or if you remember your own special times in a band family, please consider making a gift to the Tammy Fund.
On April 23, 2012, the band hall entrance was dedicated as the Band Memorial Plaza in honor of booster moms Robin Maness Thayer and Tammy Wiant Smith, who gave so much love and energy to the Panther Band. With the help of Paschal Eagle Scouts, the plaza has been planted with three redbud trees and lined with butterfly bushes.
